Most of us have heard of Bio Diesel. However, Bio Diesel has many shortcomings. Bio Diesel freezes, contains impurities, and can damage various engine components. The good news is an improved form of Diesel has hit the market. This new type of Diesel is known as Renewable Diesel. Both Bio Diesel and Renewable Diesel are refined from sustainable inputs including used cooking oil, agricultural waste, animal tallow, and even nonfood crops like Camelina. Remarkably Renewable Diesel is refined in such a way that it is molecularly identical to standard Fossil Fuel Diesel. This means Renewable Diesel can be dropped into any existing diesel engine with zero modifications. Renewable Diesel emits 80% less emissions than standard Diesel and Gasoline making it one of the cleanest burning fuels available. Renewable Diesel also touts a much higher cetane rating than regular diesel making it a high-performance fuel. Renewable Diesel is more powerful, efficient, and often cheaper than standard diesel. Renewable Diesel is also much easier to refine than gasoline, meaning the process does not produce nearly as much pollution. Renewable Diesel has enormous potential to propel our vehicles, commercial airliners, and tanker ships. Renewable Diesel can also be used to replace coal power plants and create energy independence for nations across the Globe.
Many big oil companies have recognized the power of Renewable Diesel and are now starting to mass produce it. When an oil company adds a renewable fuel source to their existing fuel supply, they get significant tax breaks via initiatives like The Blenders Tax Credit, Carbon Credits and Cap & Trade. Darling Ingredients (stock ticker DAR) partnered with Valero and is currently producing millions of gallons of Renewable Diesel. Other companies such as Marathon Petroleum (stock ticker MPC), Phillips 66 (Stock ticker PSX) and Global Clean Energy Holdings (stock ticker GCEH) have seen Darling's success and have major projects under construction which, collectively, will bring billions of gallons of Renewable Diesel (and other renewable fuels) to the market place each year. Darling Ingredients has enjoyed great financial success due to their Renewable Diesel output. I like these stocks. Beyond exploring these big refining companies there are things you can do to participate and promote Renewable Diesel right now. Directly below is a video link displaying one of these incredibly refining facilities:
If you live in California, you can purchase Renewable Diesel at the pump. Renewable Diesel is currently sold at Propel Fuel Stations and select 76 Stations. Look up these companies to find out where you can fill up with Renewable Diesel. If Renewable Diesel is a success in California, then its availability will spread to other states and hopefully other nations. If you are in CA and have a diesel vehicle, use these fuel stations. Unfortunately, Renewable Diesel is taxed at an unfair rate. Please consider contacting your local government representative and express the need for lower taxes on this great clean fuel. Filling up your tank with The Clean Green is not the only exciting thing about Renewable Diesel.
Renewable Diesel is very similar to Jet Fuel. Large renewable fuel refineries are producing not only Renewable Diesel but also Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAFs.) SAFs is potentially a huge market and Refining Companies are positioning to meet the needs of the aviation industry. SAFs could save airlines money and drastically reduce emissions. Lastly Renewable Diesel can replace coal and other fossil fuels as a clean and superior alternative for electrical power generation. Many power plants already burn diesel. Until recently The Islands of American Samoa were completely powered by diesel generators. Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) Power Plants are another widely used fossil fuel power plant that could easily be converted to run on Renewable Diesel. Additionally, many existing Coal Power Plants can be modified to use renewable diesel to power their generators. The refining of renewable fuels has the power to drastically reduce The Planets need for fossil fuels. Not all power generation can be solar. Not every car can be Tesla. Electrifying transportation is nice; however, it requires huge sums of money and natural resources like Lithium. Renewable Diesel is an important fuel source for creating a healthier Planet. ACTIVIST INVESTING IN RENEWABLE DIESEL - IDEAS FOR GLOBAL CLEAN ENERGY HOLDINGS (GCEH)
I am an early investor in a startup called Global Clean Energy Holdings. The company is publicly traded under the stock ticker GCEH. You can look up their website and SEC filings and find tons of information about them. If you want, you can even buy their stock (disclaimer not investment advice.) In May 2020 GCEH bought an old Diesel Refinery in Bakersfield California. GCEH planned to retool the refinery to produce Renewable Diesel.
Renewable Diesel is in huge demand. Darling Ingredients, a competitor in the industry, has had great success and profitability producing Renewable Diesel. Darling is now on pace to make 1 billion gallons of Renewable Diesel a year.
GCEH is behind on their construction to retool The Bakersfield Refinery. The construction delay forced them to take a 145m dollar equity deal with Exxon Mobil to get back on track. GCEH spent too much money chasing their oil crop ambitions and dropped the ball on construction. As a shareholder I found this news disappointing as I do not want Exxon to take a controlling share of the company. I attended Draper U to facilitate some sort of activist investing within GCEH and shed light on the situation in Bakersfield. I believe if GCEH completes their refinery and gets producing renewable fuels their market cap could rival that of Darling Ingredients.
I believe GCEH should focus solely on completing construction and becoming a refinery that actually produces. Once producing the next step is to build out and expand their refining capacity. The Refinery has its own rail car access on site and the property is over 550 acres. Only a fraction of the property is currently being used. GCEH has a lot of land that could be used to expand production.
Once producing GCEH can simply buy feedstock/refinable inputs from 3rd parties. Used cooking oil, animal tallow/fat, and some AG products can all be used as refining inputs. Many companies produce and sell these inputs. GCEH could also vertically integrate into this space.
In the future I would like to see investment go to creating lab grown fat. This may sound like science fiction, but it is already being done in the food space. There are start up companies using stem cells from animals to grow literal tons of animal fat. Animal fat can be refined into Renewable Diesel, Jet Fuel, Propane, pretty much anything fossil crude oil makes can be refined from animal fat.
In the end, if this is done correctly, I believe the technology developed here could create much cleaner fuels that drop into the Planets existing infrastructure. These fuels could also be used for electrical production. This technology could significantly reduce The Planets reliance on fossil fuels. Reducing the dependence on fossil fuels without having to fundamentally change every existing engine and power plant on Earth would be revolutionary. The result would be rapid transition to a cleaner, more prosperous, and peaceful Planet.
